Patient Flow

Patient Flow is the ability to track a patient as they move through your office during a patient visit. Care360 EHR provides a fully customizable list of rooms and statuses, along with your organization's provider list, which you can use to track a patient through an office visit. Patient Flow tracking is limited to a 24-hour period (from midnight to midnight) and can be integrated with the Today's Patient's list.

Understanding How Patient Flow Works

After you enable and set up your Patient Flow Preferences on the Organization Preferences page, the Patient Flow page appears on the Message Center tab and a Patient Flow Overview section appears on the Quick View page.

You can then begin adding patients to Patient Flow. A patient can be added to Patient Flow from the following locations:

Today's Patients list. If your organization is integrated with a patient management system and you display the Today's Patient list on the Quick View page, you can initiate Patient Flow tracking for a patient by clicking the Check In link. The patient will then enter Patient Flow with a status of checked in, and you can then track the patient through his visit.

Patient Flow page. On the Patient Flow page, you can manually add a patient to Patient Flow. When you manually add a patient, you specify the room and status, along with the provider and appointment time (optional).

After a patient has been added to Patient Flow, you can then monitor and/or update the patient's status in any of the following locations:

Quick View page. The Quick View page provides an overview of all patients who are currently in Patient Flow and are assigned a status and/or room.

Patient Flow page. The Patient Flow page provides an overview of all of today's patients who are currently in Patient Flow (in the In Progress Patients list) or checked out (in the Completed Patients list). Additionally, you can add a patient to Patient Flow, update the status and/or room of a patient in Patient Flow, or remove a patient from Patient Flow.

Patient's Summary page. Patients who are checked into Patient Flow will have a status item on the patient's Summary page [Status (Room) appears to the right of their name]. You can use this status item to review a patient's current status and room, or make modifications, as applicable.

When the patient is finished with a visit, you can check out the patient (by updating their status). The patient is not removed from Patient Flow, but rather placed in the Completed Patients list on the Patient Flow page. At the end of the day (at midnight) all patients (those on the In Progress Patients and Completed Patients lists) are automatically removed from Patient Flow. Additionally, if you have accidentally added a patient to Patient Flow, you can remove the patient from Patient Flow by clicking the Remove icon next to the patient in either the In Progress Patients or Completed Patients list (on the Patient Flow page).
