Assign Lab Order Tasks

For each lab order in the Orders queue, do any of the following:

View additional information about the tests. Do either of the following:

To view the orderable components of a panel, position the pointer over .

To view details about a test, panel, or custom profile, click . You can also click the Collection Tubes and Proper Order of Draw links at the bottom of the Directory of Service Information dialog box to view information about drawing and handling specimens. To remove the test, panel, or custom profile from the order, click Remove; otherwise click Close when you have finished reviewing the information.

Remove a diagnosis or test. Click next to each diagnosis or test you want to remove from the order. If you remove all diagnoses and tests, the entire order is removed.

Add a diagnosis or test. Click the Edit link next to the order, make any necessary changes, and then click Update to save your changes.

Assign a task. To assign an order task to yourself or another individual in your organization so that the order can be completed later, follow these steps for each order:

a In the Assign list, click the person who should complete the task.

b In the Task Message box, type any additional information or instructions.

Note: To assign all of the listed orders as tasks for the same person, click Apply to All.

Place the order on hold for a Quest Diagnostics or contracted phlebotomist. In the Assign list, click Quest PSC/IOP.

Note: You cannot use the Quest PSC/IOP option under the following circumstances:

Patient demographic information is missing or incomplete.

Selected tests require additional clinical information.

Billing information is missing or incomplete.

Insurance coverage rules are not met.

An ABN is required.

For information about why a particular order cannot be assigned to a Quest Diagnostics or contracted phlebotomist, position the pointer over .

Complete the full order. To complete the order yourself at this time, click Edit next to the appropriate order, and then click Create Full Lab Order. For more information, see Placing an Order via Streamlined Order Entry.
