Administering Medications or Vaccinations

To keep an accurate history of a patient’s care, you can record medications or vaccinations administered (or refused) during an office visit. The medication or vaccine name, as well as other information such as dose form and administered route, can also be captured.

When creating a record of administration in the patient’s summary, you can provide detailed information about the medication or vaccination that is being administered or refused. Additionally, when administering vaccinations using Care360 ePrescribing or EHR, the application remembers information about the dose form, manufacturer, lot number, and expiration date of a vaccine (so that the next time you need to administer that same vaccine, it takes less time to enter information.)

If the medication or vaccination that is being administered needs to be evaluated, or causes an adverse reaction, the results and adverse reaction (or allergy) can be documented as part of the record for the administered medication or vaccination. If the medication or vaccination is refused by the patient, you can indicate the refusal reason, date, and time.

Notes:

Allergies/adverse reactions to a specific medication or vaccination will appear if previously recorded in Care360 ePrescribing or EHR.

Administered medications or vaccinations can be edited from the Medication History & Supplies page using the Edit link. For more information, see Viewing and Editing a Patient’s Medication History & Supplies.

Administered medications and vaccinations are available for display on flowsheets and graphs. For more information, see Viewing a Flowsheet and Graphing Flowsheet Data.

Drug interaction checking, formulary indicators, coverage and copay information, and other Care360 ePrescribing and EHR prescribing features are not available for administered medications or vaccinations.

Administered medications and vaccinations are identified with , which appears next to the name of the medication or vaccine.

Refused medications and vaccinations are identified with a strikethrough on the medication name (for example, FluMist) and a status of Refused.
