Create your Direct Exchange address. To create your address for sending and receiving information according to Direct standards, do the following:

Notes:

Users that are assigned the Provider, Clinician, or Clinical Office Staff role can send and receive Direct Exchange messages; however, Phlebotomist or Clinical Lab Staff roles cannot.

If you belong to multiple organizations, you must create a different Direct Exchange address for each organization.

In the Direct ID text box, type the Direct ID you have chosen.

The Direct ID can be up to 100 characters in length, and can include alphanumeric characters, periods (.), dashes (-), or underscores (_).

Click Check Availability.

Your Direct ID must be unique. If the ID you have chosen is already being used, you will receive a message indicating that you must select another ID.

Review the Direct Exchange address you have chosen, and then click Create Account.

Caution! Direct Exchange addresses cannot be modified. In addition, once a Direct Exchange address has been created for a user in a particular organization, another Direct Exchange address cannot be created for the same user in that organization.
