Clinical Messaging and Faxing

This section describes the clinical messaging and faxing functions of Care360 Labs & Meds, ePrescribing, and EHR which provide secure online communication between Care360 Labs & Meds, ePrescribing, or EHR users and other clinicians.

Clinical Messaging. Allows you to communicate with other Care360 Labs & Meds, ePrescribing, or EHR users regardless of their organization affiliation or physical office location, as well as with other individuals (including patients with Patient Portal accounts) using Direct messaging. You can send messages to other users or to a practice‑wide (organization‑wide) Inbox and can also reference clinical data within a message. For more information, see Clinical Messaging.

Notes:

You can reference only one patient per clinical message or fax.

Only Care360 EHRorganizations can send or receive Direct messages.

If Direct Messaging or Direct Exchange is disabled for your organization, you will be unable to send or receive Direct messages; however, you will still be able to view Direct messages you sent or received while the service was available. In addition, only users who have accepted the Direct messaging end user license agreement and established a Direct Messaging or Direct Exchange address, can send or receive Direct messages. For information about creating a Direct Messaging or Direct Exchange address, see Creating a Direct Address.

Users that are assigned the Phlebotomist or Clinical Lab Staff role cannot send or receive Direct messages.

Direct messages can only be sent to patients who have established a Patient Portal link within your organization. For more information on setting up a Patient Portal account, see Patient Portal Accounts.

Allergies, Problems, History information, and active Medications in attached clinical notes or antepartum reports appear as they did when the message was originally sent, and follow their original history section templates, even if these differ from the templates in use at your organization. Updates made to these data after the note or report is sent will not be reflected in the attachment.

Clinical Faxing. Allows users to share patient information that is stored in Care360 Labs & Meds, ePrescribing, or EHR with other providers, institutions, or individuals who do not use Care360 Labs & Meds, ePrescribing, or EHR. For more information, see Clinical Faxing.

The clinical messaging and faxing features can be useful for a number of purposes related to patient care, including patient referrals, answering patient questions, and providing care instructions to other clinicians. By attaching patient data to a clinical message or fax, the sender is essentially granting the receiver permission to view the attached data.
