Send Results to an e-Patient

1 To verify that the patient is registered to accept results into an e-Patient, access the patient’s summary and verify their status. If a patient has successfully registered (or established) their PIN, then the Established status appears in the Patient Communication list.

If the patient’s status is Requested, you can send results to their record, however the results remain queued until the patient finishes the registration process. You can contact the patient and remind them to register their e-Patient PIN so that you can begin sending results to their e-Patient.

2 Do one of the following to send results to an e-Patient:

To locate and send individual results, continue with steps 3 through 6.

To make changes to the organization’s auto-forward policy, continue with step 6.

To send bulk results, continue with step 8.

Note: Only final and corrected results can be sent to an e-Patient.

3 Do one of the following to locate an individual result to send to an e-Patient:

Select a result in either the Recent Tests or Recent Requisitions list from the patient summary.

Review results listed on the new lab results page, and then select the result that you want to send.

Search for the result using the find results page, and then select the result in the search results table.

Perform a query using the informatics query page, and then select the results in the search results table.

4 Click Send to e-Patient at the top of the result.

Notes:

When sending an Interactive Insights lab report to a patient, the patient-focused view of the report is sent.

Duplicate results can be sent if you click the Send to e-Patient link on the same result at different times. Also, if a patient registers and has queued results, but does not finish the registration process, all queued results will be sent to the e-Patient when the patient completes the registration process with a new PIN. This can result in duplicate results being sent to their account.

5 In the Notes box, type the information that you want to send with the test result data to the patient (Notes are related to the result or group of results that are being sent, not to individual analytes).

The notes appear with the result data when the patient views the result in their MyQuest account.

Notes:

You can only add notes to a result if your organization is using Care360 EHR.

The notes can be viewed from the e-Patient Sent Log tab. For more information on viewing the e-Patient Sent Log tab, see Viewing the e-Patient Sent Log for a Lab Result.

6 Click Send to send the results to the e-Patient.

The next time that the patient logs into MyQuest, the lab result will be available for review.

Tip: If the Send to e-Patient link is not available, then either the e-Patient PIN letter has not been given to the patient (the patient’s status is not yet Requested), or the result that you are viewing is a partial result. If the patient’s status is not yet Established, contact the patient and remind them to register their PIN.

You can verify the result was sent to the e-Patient by refreshing the page and then viewing the e-Patient Sent Log tab. For more information on viewing the e-Patient Sent Log tab, see Viewing the e-Patient Sent Log for a Lab Result.

7 To specify a patient-level auto-forward policy (which overrides the organization-level auto-forward policy), do the following:

Note: For more information on how to set up the organization-level auto-forward policy, see Specify Patient Link Request Preferences for an Organization.

a Click Patient Communication > Edit Result Policies (located to the right of the patient identification).

b On the e-Patient results policies page, in the Lab Result Forwarding Policy area, select the Use Organization Policy check box (which is set by default) to clear its selection.

c Specify the results that you want to send:

Select the Forward Normal Results check box to automatically send incoming results that are normal (with an order status of Final and/or Corrected).

Select the Forward Out of Range Results check box to automatically send incoming results that are marked out of range or priority out of range (with an order status of Final and/or Corrected).

Note: If you want to automatically forward out of range results, you must select both the Forward Normal Results and Forward Out of Range Results check boxes to include out of range results in your results forward policy.

d In the Delay Hours box, type the number of hours that you want to delay the results release from the time that they are received. This delay provides you with an opportunity to review the results before they are sent to the e-Patient Link.

Note: Once a delay has been set and a result is received by Care360 Labs & Meds, ePrescribing, or EHR the result is managed by the currently set delay time period. Any delay in sending the result to an e-Patient will be managed by the policy set when the result was received by Care360 Labs & Meds, ePrescribing, or EHR and not based on any changes made while the result was being delayed.

e Click Save.

Note: You can verify that the results are being sent to the e-Patient by viewing the e-Patient Sent Log tab. For more information on viewing the e-Patient Sent Log tab, see Viewing the e-Patient Sent Log for a Lab Result.

8 To send bulk historical results to the e-Patient, do the following:

a Navigate to the patient summary if you are not already there and click Patient Communication > Edit Result Policies (located to the right of the patient identification).

b On the e-Patient results policies page, in the Send Historical Lab Results area, type the number of months (prior to the current month) that you want to send lab results.

c Specify the results that you want to send in bulk:

Select the Send Normal Results check box to bulk send results that are normal (with an order status of Final and/or Corrected).

Select the Send Out of Range Results check box to bulk send results that are marked out of range or priority out of range (with an order status of Final and/or Corrected) will be sent to e-Patient Link.

d Click Send Now.

Tip: If you send a result as part of a bulk send and also send it individually, the patient will receive duplicate results in the e-Patient. You can verify that the results were sent to the e-Patient by viewing the e-Patient Sent Log tab. For more information on viewing the e-Patient Sent Log, tab, see Viewing the e-Patient Sent Log for a Lab Result.
