This section provides instructions for viewing lab results that are pending release to an e-Patient. The Results Pending Release list allows you to view all normal and out of range lab results for patients who have established a link between themselves and the physician. This allows you to select specific results that you want to send to a patient, or you can also select multiple results to send, or select all results and batch send them to patients. The Results Pending Release list is similar in view and function to the New Lab Results list, however it is specifically designed to display, sort, and filter results that are pending release to a patient’s personal health record.
In order for a patient’s lab results to appear in the Results Pending Release list, you must generate an e-Patient link PIN for the patient. When the PIN is created, you begin to queue lab results for the patient. Once the patient uses the PIN to complete the connection between Care360 Labs & Meds, ePrescribing, or EHR and the e-Patient, the queued results will appear in the Results Pending Release list.
For more information on an e-Patient, see Sending Results to an e‑Patient.
Note: All lab results received by Care360 Labs & Meds, ePrescribing, or EHR (whether new or previously viewed, manually removed, or sent to an e-Patient) are saved to the associated patient’s summary. A result that no longer appears on the Results Pending Release list is always available by accessing the summary for the associated patient. |
Results remain on the Results Pending Release list until one of the following occurs:
• The lab result is manually removed. You can remove one or more results in the Results Pending Release list at any time by selecting the result(s) and then clicking Remove Selected.
Notes: • Removing a result in the Results Pending Release list does not delete the result from Care360 Labs & Meds, ePrescribing, or EHR; it only removes it in this list. All results (whether new or previously viewed, manually removed, or sent to an e-Patient) are always available from the associated patient’s summary. • For more information on how to manually remove a result in the Results Pending Release list, see Manually Remove Results in Results Pending Release List. |
• The lab result is sent to the patient. When you view the result and forward it on to the patient’s health record by selecting the result(s) and clicking the Send to e-Patient link, the result will no longer appear on the Results Pending Release list.
Notes: • Sending a result to a patient removes it in the Results Pending Release list. All results (whether new or previously viewed, manually removed, or sent to an e-Patient link) are always available from the associated patient’s summary. • For more information on how to send results to a patient’s health record, see Send Results Pending Release to an e-Patient. |
• The lab result is older than 30 days. If a new result has not been viewed, forwarded, or manually removed for 30 days after receipt in Care360 Labs & Meds, ePrescribing, or EHR, it is automatically removed in the Results Pending Release list.
The default expiration value is 30 days, but this value can be modified (as needed) to best fit your organization’s needs. For more information about modifying the Results Pending Release Expiration setting for your organization, see Set Result Preferences for an Organization.
Each time you access the results pending release page, it displays the latest available results data available for your organization. If you leave the results pending release page displayed for an extended period of time without navigating elsewhere in the system, you can refresh the Results Pending Release list with the latest available data by clicking the Refresh button. If any filtering settings are currently applied, clicking the Refresh button returns only new lab results that meet the current filter settings. For more information about modifying filter settings from the results pending release page, see View Results Pending Release.
The Results Pending Release list consists of a table of recently received results that can be forwarded to a patient’s health record. By default, all results pending release are initially displayed in descending order by the lab result collection date. If you would like to define a different initial sort order, or view only a limited number of results, such as those for a specific provider, lab account, or result status (out of range, normal), you can define default settings for the Results Pending Release list from the General Preferences page.
While viewing the Results Pending Release list, you can also re‑sort the data as needed by clicking any of the column headings. For example, if you want to view all results by their status, you can sort the list of results by clicking the Status column heading. (Clicking a column heading a second time reverses the sort).
The following is a list of the data columns that appear in the Results Pending Release list:
• Rvwd. Displays when a result has been marked as reviewed. For information about marking a result as reviewed, see Mark a Lab Result as Reviewed.
• Antd. Displays when a result contains annotations. For information about adding a note to a result, see Viewing or Adding Lab Result Annotations.
• Status. Displays the following information:
• Out of range symbol (). Indicates that one or more of the results for the corresponding requisition are outside of the normal range.
• See Report message. Indicates that one or more of the results for the corresponding requisition has an unknown status (normal or out of range is not specified). The See Report message only appears if the corresponding requisition does not contain out of range or priority out of range results.
• Requisition Number. Displays the Requisition Number assigned to the test. Each requisition number includes the following:
• An information symbol () which provides a list of tests (or panels) associated with the requisition. Position the pointer over the symbol to view this information in a pop-up.
• A View PDF symbol () which provides access to a PDF document that contains the results of the tests (or panels) associated with the requisition.
Note: If an enhanced report is available for a result, appears with the requisition number. Enhanced reports are those that contain more than simple lists of data, such as an Anatomic Pathology (AP) report which contains photomicrographs of tissue or blood samples, and a pathologist's report of the diagnosis. If the Interactive Insights report view is selected, you can click the enhanced icon in the Results Pending Release list to access the enhanced report PDF; otherwise, the icon is simply an indicator. For more information on the Interactive Insights report view, click here to watch a short training video. |
• Patient Name. Displays the name (last, first) of the patient for whom the test was ordered.
• Patient ID. Displays your organization’s identification number for the patient.
• Lab ID. Displays the identification code of the laboratory that performed the test.
• Collected Date. Displays the date the test specimen was collected.
• Ordered By. Displays the name of the provider, or non-physician provider (such as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant) who ordered the test.
