Reply to a Clinical Message

1 View a received message; for instructions, see View a Received Message.

2 To reply to the sender of the message that you are currently viewing, click Reply.

Note: If the Reply button does not appear, you must first save the message to the referenced patient’s summary. For instructions on saving a clinical message to a patient summary, see Save a Clinical Message to a Patient Summary or Save a Direct Message or Attachment to a Patient Summary .

3 Review the To, To Direct, and Subject boxes, to make sure that you are replying to the intended recipient. You can modify these boxes as needed.

Note: Any attachments that were included in the original message are not included with your reply. You must add any attachments that you want to send manually.

4 Type the message content (up to 4000 characters).

Note: The text from the original message is included below the message content in the reply.

5 In the Reason for Disclosure list, select the item that most closely matches the purpose of the message.

This selection is used primarily to track the release of patients’ PHI, and in some instances, to measure your use of Care360 EHR for generating Meaningful Use metrics reports.

Notes:  

To specify a referring provider, in the Reason for Disclosure list, click Referral, and then click the name of the provider in the Referring Provider list, or click Other to enter the name of the provider manually.

To provide an office visit summary, in the Reason for Disclosure list, click Provide Patient with Office Visit Summary, and then specify a date in the Please Select Date of Office Visit box or click the calendar icon to select a date. The number of days that it takes to fulfill a request for an office visit summary contributes towards the Meaningful Use metrics. For more information, see Generating Meaningful Use Metrics Reports.

To provide a clinical summary, in the Reason for Disclosure list, click Provide Patient with Requested Clinical Summary, and then specify a date in the Please Select Date Patient Requested Clinical Summary box or click the calendar icon to select a date. The number of days that it takes to fulfill a request for a clinical summary contributes towards the Meaningful Use metrics.

To indicate that you are sharing a patient’s information electronically, in the Reason for Disclosure list, click Timely Online Access and then specify a date in the Please Select Date Patient Requested Clinical Summary box or click the calendar icon to select a date. The number of days in which it takes to fulfill a request for patient information contributes towards the Meaningful Use metrics. The Timely Online Access option is only available if your organization has Direct Messaging, and you have an established Direct address.

If another provider is going to assume responsibility for the patient’s care, click Transfer/Transition of Care Report.

6 To send the reply, click Send.

Once you have addressed a message, it no longer appears in the Messages list on the Quick View page.

Replying to Direct messages is identical to replying to any other clinical messages. If you have a Direct Messaging address and a Direct Exchange address, the original receiving address will be referenced in the reply.
