Navigating the Patient Summary

The patient summary is designed to provide quick and easy access to a patient’s latest data. At the top of each patient’s summary page, you will find basic information about the selected patient, including their name, address, phone number, date of birth, age, sex, and patient ID (PID).

Each of the patient summary navigational features is described in the following table.

Navigational Feature

Description

Hide/View Summary

Appears at the top of the patient summary. To expand or collapse all patient summary sections, click View Summary or Hide Summary, respectively.

Configure View ()

Appears at the top of the patient summary. Customize your view of the patient summary by selecting items to display. See Customizing the Patient Summary View for more information.

Data Links

Appear within several of the patient summary sections. To view details about a particular data item (for example, a prescription), click the corresponding link within a section. Details about the selected item appear in the content pane.

Alternative Data Menu

Appears as a drop-down menu within several of the patient summary section headers. To switch between the various types of data that can appear within a particular patient summary section (for example, requisitions vs. tests), position the pointer over the arrow to access the selection menu. In the menu, click the appropriate link. The section displays the selected item.

Navigation Links

Appear above the content pane. To directly access a particular type of patient data, click the a link in the top navigation pane. Options are as follows:

Summary. Use this option to return to the patient’s summary page.

Patient Visit.Use this option to start a encounter note, copy information from an existing encounter note into a new encounter note, view existing clinical notes, document a patient’s problems, document a patient’s vitals, document a patient’s history, access patient-specific education materials, document patient visits without creating a encounter note, and view patient visits that were not recorded as encounter notes.

Prescriptions. Use this option to write prescriptions, record reported or administered medications, look up drugs, address action items, reconcile medications, review allergies and adverse reactions, or review medication history and supplies for a patient.

Lab Tests. Use this option to place an order, record an order, import historical lab results, enter, review, or edit POC results, or view results.

Flowsheets/Graphs. Use this option to view trends across a patient’s lab results, including prescribed or reported medications and their impact on lab results.

Radiology. Use this option to write, radiology orders, record radiology orders, view radiology orders, or view radiology results for the patient.

Diagnostics. Use this option to access a list of the most recent uploaded or electronically received diagnostics results (for example, electrocardiac, electroneuro, PFT, etc.) for the patient.

Documents. Use this option to access a list of all uploaded documents for the patient.

Share Patient Data

Appears at the top of the patient summary. To securely share patient data, use one of the following options:

Patient Communication icon. Use to access the Patient Portal Link and e-Patient Link management options, such as generating PIN or invitation letters, editing release policies, creating patient summaries, and approving or declining patient link requests. For more information, see Patient Communication.

Export Patient Data icon. Use to generate a document containing portions of the patient’s summary information using the Continuity of Care Document (CCD) Consolidated Clinical Document Architecture (CCDA) format. The document can then be saved to your computer. For more information, see Exporting Patient Data.

Print icon. Use to print the patient’s clinical data. For more information, see Printing Patient Data.

Message icon. Use to message the patient’s clinical data to an internal or Direct recipient. For more information, see Clinical Messaging.

Fax icon. Use to fax the patient’s clinical data. For more information, see Clinical Faxing.

Task Links

Appear at the top of each section of the patient summary. To perform a particular task, such as write a prescription or lab order, click the task link at the top of the appropriate patient summary section.
