e‑Patient Accounts

Setting up an e-Patient account is a multi-step process where you and the patient must take steps to create the connection between your organization and the e-Patient account. This process is initiated by providing the patient with a PIN letter (printed or emailed).

Once an e-Patient link is established between a patient and Labs & Meds, you can set up lab forwarding policies for the organization and on a per patient basis and begin forwarding lab results to patients via MyQuest. For information on organization-based policies, see Set Result Preferences for an Organization. For information on forwarding lab results to patients and setting up per patient forwarding policies, seeSending Results to an e‑Patient and Send Results to an e-Patient .

Note: If your organization orders lab tests through Solstas® Lab Partners, you must set up an e-Patient account if you want your patient to electronically receive lab results. The patient will automatically receive lab results based upon MyQuest policies. For additional information on how MyQuest releases lab results, refer to the MyQuest FAQs.

Setting Up and Managing an e-Patient Account

To initiate the service and send the patient’s lab results to the e-Patient account, you must generate an e-Patient PIN for the patient. After generating the e-Patient PIN and giving it to the patient in person or through email, the patient then needs to access the registration page that is listed on the letter and type their PIN to authorize you to send results to their e-Patient account. In the meantime, you can queue lab results for the patient, and once the patient registers the PIN, the queued results are sent to the e-Patient.

The patient must register within 28 days before the PIN expires. If the patient’s PIN does expire, you can access their patient summary and re-generate a new PIN letter that you can print or send in an email to the patient. All queued results are not affected by generating a new PIN for the patient.

Note: Once a PIN has been used to register a patient for receiving results, it can no longer be used for linking to the patient’s record because it is a one-time-use PIN. If the patient were to create a new e-Patient or no longer have access to it, the patient would need to ask for a new PIN to be generated to re-establish the link.

The e-Patient status appears on the Patient Communication management menu. If there is no status, then a PIN has not yet been generated for the patient. Beside the status, the Patient Communication management option list is available for use in managing the patient’s link.

The possible statuses and management options that can appear are:
